Gas Dehydration Troubleshooting Activities

about1Produced gas that is usually dried to an export specification in the Gas Dehydration Package prior to being passed to the gas export pipeline, may develop problems if the mass transfer operation of water absorption between the wet gas and the lean glycol in the glycol contactor goes off specification.

When this happens, both the Gas Dehydration and the TEG Regeneration Packages have to be investigated by troubleshooting all the peripheral units to assess precisely why the gas is not being dried to the design specification required by the client to meet their contractual gas export obligations.

This troubleshooting process requires an understanding of how all the lean glycol and rich glycol system components should function and correctly interface with the wet gas glycol contactor vessel in order to diagnose the solution and how to rectify the problem, since ‘downtime’ on gas export can be extremely costly to the oil companies (i.e. loss of revenue up to $1M per day) who will usually be the principal clients.
